I listened to this podcast, Radiolab's "The Fact of the Matter," when it first came out and the segment "Yellow Rain" made me profoundly uncomfortable. This article, written by the woman who served as a translator during this particular piece, provides a pretty damning account of what happened both before and after the segment aired. Her name is Kao Kalia Yang, and she is a well-known writer and activist from the Hmong community--but if you take it from Radiolab, she's simply the niece of the man being interviewed. And it just goes on from there.
